This exceptional South American food derives its name from a Spanish and Portuguese term referring to beef or grilled meat. It’s one of the most popular proteins consumed in different Latin American countries like Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Uruguay. Join us at The Voya Restaurant for our Churrasco Argentino (shown above), served with creamy corn poblano salsa, green beans, pico de gallo, and chimichurri sauce. Delish!
Empanadas are a popular South American appetizer, served all over the world. In Brazilian Portuguese, they’re referred to as pastel, and salteña in Bolivian. They’re prepared using fried or baked pastry, stuffed with cheese, meat, corn smut (which is a delicacy in Mexico), fruits, vegetables, and a wide array of other fillings that are guaranteed to be sweet and savory. We serve two versions of empanadas with a twist, called empanadillas (shown above):
- Empanadillas de Lechon – Shredded pork, cured cabbage, onions and zucchini, served with a aioli ricotta sauce.
- Vegetariana Empanadillas – Cured cabbage, black beans, bell peppers, mushrooms, smoked mozzarella cheese, poblano peppers, onions and served with a aioli ricotta sauce.
Ceviche is a popular Peruvian dish consisting of raw fish that has been cured in citrus juices such as naranja agria or key lime bitter orange, which is then spiced up with aji (chili peppers). Salt, onion, and peppers are also added to the marinade, then served in a small glass to serve as an appetizer (leche de panteral or leche de tigre). Also popular in Ecuador and Chile, ceviche is part of Peru’s national heritage – June 28th is Día Nacional del Cebiche (National Ceviche Day).
